Position Summary:

 

The Plasma Physicist will be dedicated to developing Nusano’s plasma technology at our Valencia, CA facility. The Physicist will be responsible for modeling, designing, and optimizing plasma systems for a variety of applications. Interacting with Nusano’s internal science and engineering staff in addition to a number of external consultants and vendors will be required. As projects move from the design phase to installation and operations, the Physicist will support quality control, alignment, commissioning, and upgrades on the devices.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Drive the physics design of plasma devices for a variety of applications
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines to optimize constructability, operation, and help make the devices real
  • Work with researchers to identify and implement improvements
  • Model fields and plasma-wave interactions in a transit-time device
  • Collect data to verify operational status of the devices, and track long-term trends
  • Maintain lab equipment and ensure safe machine operation
  • Assist in control system development
  • Train operators on procedures, tuning, and machine parameters
  • Support 24/7 operations as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in physics or closely related field
  • 5+ Years of experience in experimental plasma physics
  • Experience with plasma-wave interaction
  • Experience with E&M simulation tools (COMSOL, OmniTrak, Elegant, CST, WARP, FEMM, etc.)
  • Experience with fluid and thermal simulation tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Flow, etc.)

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • PhD in Physics or closely related field
  • Experience with ECR plasma production, RF systems, superconducting magnets, high vacuum systems, and high voltage systems
  • Experience with plasma diagnostic instrumentation and design
  • Experience with high power RF (~100-1000 kHz, and ~10-1000 GHz)
  • Experience with plasma antennas and wave coupling
  • Experience working with CAD modeling software

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working in a facility that produces radiation
  • Work to be conducted in both an office environment and the production facility
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of strong magnetic field
  • 2-4 weeks of travel per year for visiting Nusano’s production and affiliate facilities, visiting vendors, and attending conferences

 

Salary range: $155,000 - $175,000
