Position Summary:

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Plant Engineer with expertise in building automation and mechanical systems to join our team. The Plant Engineer is responsible for overseeing the Plant operations and maintenance at the Nusano West Valley City Manufacturing site. This role ensures the facility's plant infrastructure and systems are compliant and fit for use when needed. The Plant Engineer must maintain efficient and effective maintenance and reliability techniques and take appropriate corrective and improvement actions when necessary. Additionally, the role involves managing local capital for assets and overseeing engineering and maintenance resources.

 

In the project delivery phase and startup phase of the project (startup expected 2025 to 2026), roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support facility commissioning, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity, and resilience as the site grows to a full-scale GMP manufacturing through start-up.

 

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

 

  • Ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and sustainable operation of the facility systems and equipment. Initiate and foster a continuous improvement and optimization process.
  • Ownership of BAS and MEP system infrastructure operations for existing maintenance and operations. Adjust and optimize system parameters based on historical data analysis and best practices.
  • Contribute to capital improvement projects, representing Operations interests, providing SME input, and ensuring compliance with site procedures, local laws, and Quality and EHS regulations. Support site goal objectives, including installation, commissioning, and turnover of new equipment and systems.
  • Solicit bids, select, and hire appropriate engineering consultants, construction contractors, service contract providers, and equipment vendors; provide oversight for contracted parties.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with existing plans, industry practice, and Physical Plant SOPs. Responds to call-ins after regular hours and during inclement weather.
  • Support daily operations, including equipment troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis, to assure technical availability.
  • Monitor, track, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and cost metrics on a regular basis; actively work for performance improvement.
  • Develop and maintain facility operations tools, standards, work instructions, procedures, and safety protocols, as well as cGMP and other regulatory compliance processes.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Operating Procedures for facility systems and equipment.
  • Participate in safety audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, assisting in the development and implementation of safety procedures.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive equipment maintenance strategy and process to optimize uptime, minimize maintenance costs, and ensure effective lifecycle management utilizing an EAM/CMMS.  The maintenance program should be risk-based, beginning as preventative and working towards predictive.
  • Manage facility maintenance costs and budget planning.
  • Perform or provide technical oversight for facility maintenance activities.
  • Investigate stakeholder concerns regarding system performance and maintain transparent communication with stakeholders.
  • Maintain manuals, schematics, assembly drawings, and P&IDs related to facilities systems/equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility engineering, with a focus on building automation and mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, boilers, and air handling units.
  • Experience and familiarity with air compressors, pumps, water systems, electrical equipment, generators, fire systems, and associated equipment and systems; Experience with automation software and tools, such as PLC programming, SCADA systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Experience working in the medical device industry and/or a highly regulated industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • This role is based at Nusano’s headquarters in Utah at our Production facility.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Some travel (estimated 10–20%) may be required for investor meetings, industry events, and offsite strategic planning.
