Position Summary:

Nusano is seeking a senior level Technician/Machinist to assist in the development and installation of a first-generation, state of the art, high-power particle accelerator for the production of medical radioisotopes at its Technology Development Center in Valencia, California. In this role, the candidate will work with scientists, engineers, and technicians to execute work related to mechanical, electronics/control systems, high-vacuum, electromagnetic, RF, process cooling, and other subsystems. This position requires a strong background with hands-on work in a high-tech, laboratory environment. The candidate will support the fabrication and installation of new parts, and modification of off the shelf parts for the accelerator or related devices.

What You'll Do:

• Develop, assemble, test, maintain, and operate various mechanical and electrical systems
• Work safely around radiological, chemical, mechanical, electrical, and cryogenic hazards with the use of appropriate PPE
• Perform both manual and CNC machining with tight tolerances (0.001”), torch soldering/brazing
• Perform measurements on precision components on parts that are made in-house or by outside vendors as part of the receiving and qualification process using our CMM
• Interface between physicists, engineers, and technicians to complete tasks and system qualifications
• Create, edit, and maintain engineering documentation using CAD (SolidWorks) and other design & schematic capture programs
• Assist with the selection and procurement of machine tools and support equipment
• Maintain machine shop equipment and workspaces
• Keep shop stocked with basic supplies and materials; procure specialty material as needed
• Maintain inventories via spreadsheets and enterprise management software
• Assist in the creation of Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions
• Adhere to and enforce quality system standards (GMP, ISO, etc.)

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate’s degree, Certificate of Manufacturing Technology, or Trade License in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
• Experienced with a wide variety of hand and power tools
• Familiar with precision mechanical inspection tools (calipers, micrometer, height gauge, etc.)
• Fully proficient with digital productivity tools (Google Suite products, Microsoft Office products)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
• High-vacuum technology and handling experience
• Familiarity with safety procedures around high-voltage and high-power electronics
• Experience troubleshooting with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs
• Experience with welding
• Previous work in a GMP or ISO environment
• Experience with CMM (Faro Arm and Verisurf software) and GD&T
• Material handling experience

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
• Ability to operate hand and power tools for long periods of time
• Must be comfortable working as a radiation worker
• Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse and manual dexterity
• Must be able to work in the presence of strong magnetic field
• Ability to regularly lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
• 1-4 weeks of travel per year for site visits, visiting vendor and attending conferences
