Position Summary:

 

The Radiation Safety Manager will be responsible for the execution of Nusano’s radiation protection program while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations within our Radiance Laboratory. This lab will allow the company to develop and implement radioisotope production processes using radioactive tracers. This position will provide hands-on and strategic support to radiochemists. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research while maintaining the highest standards of safety.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials within the laboratory by chemists and other staff.
  • Provide radiation safety training to laboratory staff and ensure that all personnel are properly trained in radiation safety.
  • Develop, improve, and implement radiation safety protocols, policies, and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Procure and maintain radiation protection instrumentation.
  • Serve as Radioactive Materials Inventory Manager at the Radiance Lab.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with radiation safety standards.
  • Monitor radiation exposure levels and implement measures to minimize occupational exposure.
  • Coordinate work with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
  • Contribute to Rad Material License application and amendment efforts.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents involving radiation exposure and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Stay current on developments in radiation safety regulations and best practices and ensure that laboratory procedures are updated accordingly.
  • Hire and mentor future Radiation Safety staff.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide regular on-site presence.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or graduate level degree in health physics, physical science, engineering or biological sciences.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in health physics in a radiological facility (particle accelerators, radiochemistry, nuclear industry, etc.)
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local radiation safety regulations.
  • Risk assessment/management experience.
  • Writing plans, policies and procedures.
  • Conceptual planning ability.
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership ability.
  • Communication, meeting, and presentation skills.

 

Preferred Requirements:

  • Current certifications in Health Physics (CHP) from ABHP (American Board of Health Physics)

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working within radiation environments and/or GMP. 

  • Work to be conducted in an office environment, laboratories, and/or production environment. 

  • Ability to work sitting and standing for extended periods. 

  • Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse and manual dexterity.
