Overview

Nusano

Position Summary:

Nusano is seeking a Senior Nuclear Engineer to support the design, production, and testing of isotope production targets at a heavy-ion particle accelerator facility.  Nusano has a patented one-of-kind source technology that enables milliamp particle currents of heavy ions.  Our accelerator facility will produce active pharmaceutical ingredients for the detection and treatment of cancer, among many other diseases.  Nusano targets present a unique challenge due to the short range of heavy ions in matter and large heat loads from the high currents.  This position will be responsible for leading engineering efforts towards the successful design of these targets.  Additional responsibilities will include shielding design and assessment, target radioactive waste analysis, and target failure mode and recovery analysis.

All projects and duties will be completed in compliance with applicable cGMP, FDA, and all other regulatory agencies standards.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Lead multidisciplinary target design projects

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to establish target requirements

  • Interface with mechanical engineering, material science, manufacturing, and radiochemistry specialists to ensure target design requirements are met

  • Yield and product purity calculations

  • Lead CFD and FEA modeling efforts to estimate target survivability

  • Design and oversee key measurements necessary for providing quality inputs and benchmarks to targets model where possible

  • Oversee the irradiation of target prototypes in beam and analysis of targets post irradiation

  • Will include interfacing with external facilities pre-availability of Nusano’s beam

  • Activation estimates and radiation shielding design

  • Target radioactive waste estimates

  • Target failure mode and recovery analysis

Qualifications

  • Experience with CFD and FEA ANSYS software

  • Experience with CAD

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with alpha and/or deuteron accelerators

  • Knowledge of Product Development Life Cycle ranging from product specification and concept development to product release

  • Experience with medical/pharmaceutical design and development and/or FDA/cGMP compliance

  • Experience with radioactive material processing.

  • Experience within a production engineering environment in the specification, development and qualification production-based systems and equipment.

  • Experience in requirements gathering and definition processes and tools

  • Experience with system requirements decomposition/system architecture design

About Nusano:

No patient should be denied the cancer care they need simply because some options are in short supply or unavailable. Yet, all too often, this is what happens.

Nusano is a medical technology company that creates radioisotopes used to target and eliminate cancer cells with precision. Health care has used radioisotopes to diagnose and treat cancer and other diseases for decades. But, if supply does not keep up with demand, patients will lose out on the benefits of these lifesaving, proven tools.

Nusano’s patented technologies and methods are poised to transform radioisotope production and usher in an exciting new era in cancer care. Our state-of-the-art facility in West Valley City, Utah will produce radioisotopes quickly, efficiently, and affordably. This will make desperately needed resources available to hospitals and cancer clinics around the world and offer those with life-threatening diseases hope for a healthier tomorrow.
